Jahan-e-Sukhan ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Sukhan mobile application (the "App"),
available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. This Privacy Policy explains how
we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
You can sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In.
When you sign in we receive:
- Name — your name as held by your Apple ID or Google account
(you can choose not to share your real name with Apple)
- Email address — your real email address, or, if you chose Apple's
Hide My Email, an Apple private-relay address (
…@privaterelay.appleid.com)
that forwards to your real address
- Profile picture URL (Google only; Apple does not share a profile picture)
- User identifiers — a Firebase Authentication user ID (UID), an account ID
from your provider (Apple or Google), and a public account ID we create on our servers to
identify your account
We do not access your provider password, contacts, or any other provider account data.
1.2 Usage Data
We collect data about how you interact with the App:
- Engagement activity — likes, reactions, bookmarks, shares, and follows
- Feed interactions — impressions, views, and time spent on content
(used to personalize your feed)
- Search queries — the words you search are sent to our servers to return
results and to power autocomplete and related-search suggestions; a short history of your
recent searches is also stored on your device so you can quickly re-run them
1.3 User-Created Content
- Poetry images you create using the editor
- Custom background images you upload for poetry creation
- Bookmark notes you add to saved content
- Image collections you organize
- Original poems and translations you compose if you are an approved Poet
(poet mode), including any title, body, tags, language, and poetry type you provide
- Poet profile details you provide as an approved Poet — pen name, full name,
short bio, biography, birth year, and (optionally) a profile photo
- Books (PDF/EPUB) you upload as an approved Poet
1.4 Device Information
- Language and theme preferences (stored locally on your device)
We do not collect device identifiers, location data, or advertising IDs,
and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Authenticate your identity and maintain your account
- Personalize your feed with relevant poetry content
- Save your bookmarks, likes, follows, and collections
- Generate and store poetry images you create
- Improve content recommendations based on your engagement
- Moderate user-submitted content and enforce community guidelines
3. Data Storage and Security
- Authentication tokens are stored in encrypted secure storage on your device
- Preferences (language, theme) are stored locally on your device
- Account data, engagement data, and content are stored on our servers
- Uploaded images are stored on cloud storage (AWS S3)
- Firebase Authentication (operated by Google) manages the sign-in process

We do not use any analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking services.
5. International Data Transfers
Our service providers (Google Firebase and Amazon Web Services) operate data centers in multiple
regions, which may include the United States and other countries outside your country of residence.
By using the App, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to and processed in
these jurisdictions. We rely on the standard contractual protections offered by these providers
to safeguard international transfers, including for users in the European Economic Area (EEA),
United Kingdom, and Switzerland.

All permissions are optional (except Internet) and requested only when you initiate the relevant action.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
Your data may be shared only in these circumstances:
- With Firebase, Google, and Apple for authentication purposes
(only the data needed to verify and complete sign-in)
- With cloud storage providers (AWS S3 / CloudFront) for image and book hosting
- When required by law to comply with legal obligations
- With your consent when you use the native share feature to share poetry content via other apps on your device
8. Data Retention
- Account data is retained as long as your account is active
- Engagement data (likes, bookmarks, follows) is retained as long as your account is active
- Generated images are retained until you delete them
- Local data (search history, preferences) remains on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the App
- After account deletion, personal data is removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law
9. User-Generated Content & Community Standards
The App allows users to create, upload, and share poetry, custom images, and (for approved Poets)
original written work. We have a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive behavior.
To keep the community safe, the App provides:
- Reporting — you can report any poem, image, comment, or user that violates our community guidelines
- Blocking — you can block other users to prevent them from interacting with you or your content
- Moderation — we review reported content and take action (including content removal and account suspension) within 24 hours
- Poet review — original poetry submitted via poet mode is reviewed before publication
Content that promotes hate, harassment, violence, sexual exploitation, or otherwise violates
our community guidelines will be removed and the responsible accounts may be suspended or terminated.
10. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data through the App
- Delete your bookmarks, collections, and generated images directly in the App
- Delete your account and all associated data from within the App
(Profile → Danger Zone → Delete Account)
- Revoke Google Sign-In access through your Google Account settings, or
Sign in with Apple access through Settings → Apple ID → Sign-In & Security →
Sign in with Apple on your Apple device

10.1 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect,
to request deletion of your information, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be
discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or "share" personal information
as defined under the CCPA. To exercise these rights, use the in-app deletion option or contact us
at the email below.
10.2 EEA, UK, and Swiss Residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have
additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or
object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. The legal basis
for our processing is your consent (sign-in) and our legitimate interest in providing and
improving the App. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information
from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us
and we will delete it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes
through the App or by updating the "Last Updated" date above.
